Posted on March 27th, 2008 in Uncategorized) by cj | 0 Comments »

Hopefully, it happened. The authorities got their eyes opened towards the safety of the employees.

For the safety of employees in Technopark, during night hours they’ve provided the following amenities:

     SERVICE                                           DESIGNATION

1. Ambulance Service                            Security at Park Centre

 Contact num. 0471-2700222/4061991

2.Accompaniment of Employee             Assignment Inspector

to home at odd hours/24 hours

   Presence in Campus

 Contact num. 9846241797

It is not advised to use(mostly walking alone) the Bye pass-Kazhakootam road and University Campus road during late hours. Please have the above numbers stored in your mobile for any emergency contact.

It would’ve been good if the authorities thought about errecting street lights along these notorious routes. Anyway, thanks for those opened eyes (we expect the calls to those numbers answered..at late hours).

The stories on CUSAT!

Posted on March 06th, 2008 in Uncategorized) by leya | 13 Comments »

My first real introduction to Cochin University of Science and Tech was way back during a twelfth standard tuition class session. It was time for applications to entrance exams and I asked a friend whether she had applied for CUSAT. She said, “No, My brother was under CUSAT and he advices me not to. He says it is too tough”. But obviously, tough things were not too tough for us back then and eventually I joined a college under CUSAT, only after which I came to this realisation that CUSAT could have been an excellent university but for its mis management.

I thought I ll write here when I read this post by Kenney. http://www.kenneyjacob.com/2008/02/29/cusat-is-bribing-its-students/.

This is only one of the examples of how CUSAT makes life hard for everyone under its varsity. Like the comments for the above post, I am sure not even a single person who has ever had a chance to study technology under CUSAT would not have been lucky enough not to have experienced the various goof ups.

Although the different engineering colleges under CUSAT has the same problems like lack of infrastructure, inexperienced guest lecturers coming to teach as a stop gap arrangement and so on faced by almost all other universities, CUSAT is in its own right, a very ill-managed and irresponsible system. Although accredited as the only technological university of Kerala known outside the state and with rosy promises of a degree well respected, its basic curriculum is something which needs an overhaul.

That apart, the most staggering of the universities problems are when exams come. From exam forms to registrations to exam revaluation processes everything here charges exorbitant fees. It would have been alright to charge such fees if everything went on smoothly. But most times there would not be sufficient amount of exam forms to apply, the only solution to which is to bribe out forms from other colleges which would be fortunate enough to have them! There was not one semester exam where all the subjects question papers were devoid of mistakes.  Once a mistake is detected, it is sweaty time for students. Appeals and written applications to the university literally would require yards of red tape to cross. Usually the only option would be to sit and pray that they let us pass at least. Checking papers is another legend across CUSAT. There is really no guarantee that even if you have written excellently well you would pass. There were instances when people who have only attempted for say 70 marks get more than 85! That would be very exhilarating. But what happens when people don t even get what they deserve?

There is a very long way for CUSAT to go if it is ever planning to run an IIT  and it would almost involve a massive clean up of every practice that is followed there.

I would like to dedicate this article to a dear friend of mine whose life was fucked up(sorry) big time by CUSAT. She was one of those people who would prepare really hard for every exam no matter how small. She used to do well for those college papers but she would usually fare badly in every university exam. At first all of us though it would have something to do with the way she studies. But when she failed a paper writing it the third time, she decided to look it up. After waiting a long time finally when the day came when she was allowed to see her paper.  Well, whichever absent-minded idiot corrected it had forgotten to put a mark against every red tick mark he had put. The paper surprised the teachers present there too, but when she said she would complain, they stood for the teacher. They said the case would just drag on and all you would do is punish the teacher who corrected it. isn’t it better, my dear, to write it again…

Whoever said life would be fair if you really try, please come and study under CUSAT.

Life in a dog-eat dog world..

It is a competitive world….

hearing all this i came into this field possibly thinking of making quick money riding on the  IT boom as compared to cire fields in enginerring. coming into work not knowing what to expect..

wht i found is tht u have to apply your head, ths wht ur paid for. u’ll probably hate all the documenation tht goes into work only to find out tht is wht saves u when u find a  bug or a problem in your application. when there is wor, THERE IS WORK and when work is slow its like there no work at all.

guess i have no complaints with I’m doing, getting introduced to technologies i haven’t heard about,  i do get to learn new things once in a while and life goes on…..

My First day in technopark…

Posted on February 29th, 2008 in Uncategorized) by jinson | 0 Comments »

Am very much sure that, mine will be completely diffrent experience from everyone else who joined technopark…

Nothing formal in it..Kenney Jacob, who was then the CTO of torque, a student venture in Technopark, had given me an opportunity in his company.

Waited for kenney at the TechnoMall and he came there in a Gunda style Omni…He changed a lot and lost his hairs and really he looks like a rowdi..:)..He still looks the same ..lol

Kenney was one of the best seniors I had in my engineering time . He always come up with new ideas every day and he has  a gang to make it work out..and we had a wonderful company during the college time…

and back to the TP..I joined him and I we went to park center. and went to the torque office. Totally different from my expectations. It was just an 8 seater room with a PC inside and no one is there. and that was the home to the fastest growing mobile media company in India.

And we sat there for some time and that was my first day in TP and he explained me how they work and the culture in torque. Nothing formal there. was really a great experience working with that team
