Adventure diet

The restaurant Buraq is one of the two main restaurants situated in the top floor of Bhavani building in Technopark. The building equips around 3000 techies in it, the majority relying on these restaurants to satisfy their bellies. No doubt they supply junk food, which the busy techies don’t complain against or are worried about, but sometimes they try inedible integredents too.

Its the second appearence of Buraq on the primer in last 2 months. Unfortunately its the same notorious issue again,’Food adulteration’, but this time with a new ‘recipe’. This time its an iron nail that they gave to test the digestive power of our belly. Luckily the guy who bought the dish noted the nail in his food, to extend his healthy days of his life. I don’t think i’d have to explain the ‘wonders’ that can occur by the consumption of a rusty iron piece.

Sometimes it feels like we could’ve compared the food consumption from these restaurants to some adventure reality shows on TV. Our ‘hunger-execution’ lies in our luck of getting neat food. Sometimes ’someting more than food’ might kill our hunger, as like in this case. Hope some day the AXN crew would vist them to telecast these in their ‘Guinness world record show’, if this goes on un-noticed by the authorities. Lets hope they blacklist these restaurants before that.

If you donate money you give food, but if you donate blood you give life

Its the ‘World blood donors day’ on 14th June, and lets make our helpful mark to it.  As a part of this, a mega Blood Donation camp is organized in Park- center, Technopark on 13th June 2008 between 10.00 a.m. and 02.00 p.m. The theme for the world blood donors day, this year is “Giving Blood Regularly“. Its an effort by WHO(World health Organization) to commit donors to donate blood regularly and over long term, building a stable base of volumtary unpaid donors. Read on and get rid of your anxieties regarding blood donation.

Who can donate blood?

  • All donors must be at least 17 years old or older.
  • All donors must be in good health. You can still donate if you are taking medication although it depends on your state of health and the type of medication.

Who cannot donate blood?

  • Are not feeling well the day of the blood donation.

  • Second, you will take a health examination and your pulse, blood pressure, temperature and iron level will be measured.
  •  The donation process will take 10-15 minutes.
  • After donating, you will relax for a minute while you are being served cookies and juice.

Advice for first-time donors:

Anxiety and fears are normal. Many people are afraid of donating blood. Once you have donated, you will overcome your fears.

In donating blood, you are converted into a hero in many ways.

  • Your donation can save the lives of up to 3 patients.
  •  Sometimes blood can be utilized to replace lost blood from people in life or death situations.
  • Red cells are used during surgery or after an accident to replace the blood volume and maintain the oxygen flow in all the cells of the body.
  • Plasma can be given to victims from burns and accidents to increase intravascular volume.

Recovery and time between donations

The needle site is covered with a bandage and the donor is directed to keep it for some hours. Plasma is replaced after 2-3 days. Red blood cells are replaced on average 36 days. The advisable time interval between donations is not less than 3 months.

Come on, lets donate life..!!

The Tata Elxsi centre at the Technopark here has expanded its facility to meet the scale-up requirement of its clients.

R.Natarajan, general manager and head of the centre, told reporters here on Thursday that the facility which has 582 engineers, has been expanded to accommodate 1,500 engineers.

Two new development centres would be set up in Hyderabad and Coimbatore. The new development centres will assist customers on product design and development and also provide them with high quality solutions.

Mr.Natarajan who had been heading the centre here from its inception, said that after commencing operations with 30 engineers in 2001, it has transformed into a 600-strong team and was still counting.

The expansion of the centre has been planned in a phased manner and in the last phase it would have 2 lakh sq.ft. and employ 2,000 engineers. Recruitment of more engineers would become imperative soon.

Almost 70 per cent of the engineers working in the centre are Keralites.

The centre is focussing on automotive, multimedia and digital signal processing domains. Adaptive front lighting system (AFLS), airbags and various other components for vehicles are being developed for its international clients.

Although not in vogue in the country at present, these facilities would become part of the automotive industry within the next five years, he said.

ugly chapter again..!!

Posted on June 03th, 2008 in Technopark News, Uncategorized) by cj | 0 Comments »

It was not quite an auspicious morning for the techies today, atleast for those entering the park thorugh the front gate. It was a heavy traffic jam that welcomed them to their workplace. The morning welcome would sound more worse if you hear the reason behind the traffic jam. It was a dead body of a young man of around 27 years of age. It was found in the opposite side of Technopark front gate, 200 metres away from the Chennai restaurant and near to the bus parking. He had wounds in his body which is understood to be caused by sword.

Kazhakoottam was always notorious for its anti-social elements and was sometimes termed as their capital in TVM. What is more painful is that it occured just infront of our gate beside the byepass, which boasts of 24 hour police patrol. Fate again brought the real picture of our safety. Whatever patrol there be, here we should take care of our own lives.

The day is not so far when the roadside sign-board to Kazhkoottam reads, “DANGER, Kazhakoottam Ahead..!!”

Kerala lines up Rs 20,000cr to attract IT companies

Posted on May 28th, 2008 in Technopark News) by admin | 1 Comment »

The Kerala government has come out with an over Rs 20,000-crore investment package to promote the state as an IT destination. The state’s main target is IT and ITeS companies that are planning for further expansion in Chennai and Bangalore.

Through its arm Kerala State IT Infrastructure Limited (KSITI), the government is planning to set up an IT city and IT parks across the state, which would have a seating capacity of 200,000 people by the year 2015. KSITI will promote these projects through the public-private partnership model.

The two key marketing words for KSITI are ‘continuous power supply and single-window clearance’ which saw the participation of several top companies in the roadshow held in Chennai recently.

N Radhakrishna Nair, director, KSITI and chief executive officer of Trivandrum Techno Park, said that Kerala, which was promoting tourism as ‘God’s own tourism country’ now want to promote it as ‘God’s own e-state’. The IT/ITeS sector contributed around Rs 5,000 crore to the state last year.

The state government is planning to set up a Techno City, spread over 500 acres, in Thiruvananthapuram with an investment of between Rs 8,000 crore and Rs 10,000 crore.

Land acquisition for the new facility, which will come up in close proximity to the existing Techno Park, is in the final stage. The Techno City is expected to be ready by 2015. It will have facilities including residential flats, hotels, shopping malls and theatres.

KSITI is also planning to expand the 130-acre Techno Park. The company had acquired another 200 acres. Infosys and UST Global have already started the construction work.

Both these companies are planning to invest around Rs 1,000 crore. Currently, the park employs around 20,000 people and by 2012, it is expected to employ around 100,000, Nair said.

When the Techno City and expanded Techno Park will become operational by 2015, around 200,000 people will be employed.

Speaking about the advantages, Nair said, “Low-cost and uninterrupted power and single-window clearances are the two main mantras. For instance, for IT/ITeS, the state is supplying power for Rs 3.20 a unit, while in Chennai it is around Rs 3.50 a unit (only for IT companies not for ITeS). In Kerala, since all the IT parks will be located near the power grids, companies do not have to depend on the local electricity boards.”

If a company wants to set up a facility in Kerala, it will not take more than 4 weeks for all the necessary clearances, Nair said.

In Chennai, Infosys waited for four years to obtain approvals for its Mahindra City facility. The Kerala government has created an industrial area Act, which will allow the CEO of the park, who is a non-IAS officer, as the signing authority.
